A mineral called gypsum powder can be found in nature. Because it contains traces of many of the mineral impurities that are present with phosphate rock, the name "phosphogypsum" is used to describe the specific gypsum produced by the acidulation of phosphate rock. There has been a lot of research on alternate uses for waste phosphogypsum. The major options are plasterboard, plaster, and cement, however phosphogypsum can also be used to extract sulfuric acid.
